The Bubbles

A while back in 2005 I went on my 3rd cruise to the Caribbean. This time it was different because I had friends with me, as opposed to just being with my parents, and having to join the "On Board Teen Club" where parents would leave there children in hopes of them finding a 7-day friend...

Mango, Amber, Voldemort, Rabbit (undercover names) and I, we had an exquisite time in the room that we discovered. The room included circular in wall windows that we could sit or lay in. We decided to call this room... The Bubbles. I wish I still had pictures from that cruise, but I don't. What I do have is great memories, and a Studio project created based on these memorable moments spent in those Bubbles.

For this studio project, we had to create a classroom, and part of the exterior of that classroom. Now this was an individual project which would soon be an entire school in part two of this studio project.

Flake Music

Just made this playlist today... Hope you kids like my "Flakey" music ;) And for those of you who haven't read my previous posts, the reason I call it "flakey" is because these songs may be good now, until you get sick of them in a month :) aka they "flake" on you eventually.
Now go on, click on it, and read the rest of my blog

Please do feel free to comment on this post and tell me what your favourite song is:) it's okay if it's all of them, mine is too :D

Kitchener Kitchen

Now as many of you are quite aware of, and as many of you are not quite aware of... I live in Kitchener, Ontario, moved here in August 2011 from Montreal, in order to fulfill my dreams of becoming an Interior Designer.

That should explain the title, this Kitchen is nowhere near Kitchener, it is actually a Kitchen showroom located in London, England. So don't feel too bad that your kitchen does not look like this.

So hopefully by now you kids kinda "get" my industrial design phase.  Something about mixing metals and wood just pops my design cherries.

As you can see the copper palettes have been oxidized in order to tame down the bright orange of the original copper panels. (Check out the copper bowl next to the stove)

Now this design may sadly be a little far fetched for us normal occupants. However, if I were to design something like this with such a great square footage, I'd imagine it'd have to be for some kind of movie set, quelque chose comme ca.

Cybertecture (Design Eye Candy)

Now I know cybertecture is a name for a developing project called "The Cybertecture Egg" in Mumbai, India at the moment. However, I plan on using "cybertecture" to describe incredibly advanced designs. Designs that may even not be possible to build with today's technology. What's great about computer design programs, is that there is no limit to design, you don't have to limit your mind to what you are capable of drawing with a pen anymore.

Feast your eyes kiddos!

Accessible Green Roof #whatwhat ah love it.

If you were wondering... this building is under construction this year, and will be completed in 2015 according to the Korea Planning team.

Interior Metal Transportation Device

JUMP IN
The last title I wanted to give this post was "the slide". Amateur, which I am no longer.

Why not have a slide in the middle of your New York penthouse suite. Did I already give away the location before you could guess?

Now in this case, this slide is not only meant for transportation, it is also used as a major focal point for the entire suite. Given its metal exterior, and glass casing, it certainly ties this otherwise cold suite together.

I can't really think of anyone who wouldn't want a slide in their apartment, loft, suite, house, and especially commercial buildings.

If I were to propose a change to the space, and how the Turrett Collaborative Architects have designed this place to be. I would definitely not add that hideous staircase, and replace it with a somewhat spiral staircase going alongside the metal slide. Perhaps something like this... Now imagine the stairs being in a all dark wood, with a glass covering and metal railings right along side the stairs.

Not only would this potential solution create a more open space for the living and dining area, it would also compliment the focal point (slide).

Interior Flake 1

So throughout this blog I will be flaking you kids... (over the course of this blog I will be referring to you (my readers) as kids, or kiddos.. =)

Flakes can be defined as many things nowadays. They can be a variety of things, including kellogs cornflakes, your friends who “flake” on you sometimes. But in this case, it is simply an interesting piece of furniture that can dignify your interior, in any kind of room.

Flake Numbah One - Quite recently, the famous square shelves seem to be of interest to many contemporary spaces.

The Floating Bed Concept

This "Private Suspended Bedroom" within a small loft located in Montrouge, France has been designed by the ECDM Architects.

3-Dimensional Plan View
Many modern designs have come out through small spaces, and how to make those small spaces... look less small. In other words, by hanging a bed in the middle of the room it dignifies a sense of unique, and modern design solution to a small space.

What is Modern?

Nowadays, the majority of my clients (family members & friends of friends) seem to like the more modern type of design for interiors. But what defines modern? It is basically the recent types of use for design, as opposed to remote times. How recent? We may have gotten "modern" down packed since the year 2000. However, as technology keeps rolling down a fast pace, clients feel the need to continue updating. Which can't be a bad thing. It has to be better than sticking to the past, and not letting go of what once was... Too deep for a design blog? I believe so, Moving On Now.

The reason I wanted to make modern a relevant topic this week, is simply because that is one of my main design style. Even if the surroundings are not so up to date, I sure like my design to stand out, in a rather...  selfish kind of way.

For example: Johnny-Walker Lounge

Just by adding new pieces of furniture, in this case the chairs, easily updates the room. Without having to redesign the entire space... yet.
